6 autonomous delivery robots being trialed

Having driven some of our roads, and also having witnessed the recent scenes of large-scale looting and destruction, something tells me it might be a while before we see autonomous delivery robots cruising around the streets of sunny South Africa! But its interesting to see where the technology is headed, and just how hard of a problem it is to have self-driving vehicles navigate the real-world as easily as humans do. This video below is two years old, and the robots haven’t taken over …. yet.

What I find especially interesting though is to imagine the link-up between:

  • the autonomous farm
  • the Ocada robot warehousing/distribution facility
  • some self-driving trucks between the farm and the warehouse
  • … and robot delivery to the consumer as shown in this video

It doesn’t seem such a crazy idea that the entire food production chain can become fully automated sooner than we may have imagined – and if so think of the implications – both good and bad – for our societies!
