MinION portable DNA sequencer
It took 13 years and $5 billion to map the human genome in a multi-country effort that remains ‘the world’s largest collaborative biological project’ (wikipedia).
Just over a decade later, the MinION from Oxford Nanopore Technologies allows real-time sequencing of samples in the field using a $1000 portable device connected to a laptop!
Check out the overview video on the product page, and to learn more about how it works under the hood (and explain it to me when you’re done please 😉) take a look at https://nanoporetech.com/how-it-works
Amazing that this is where we are at with DNA sequencing. Exponential rate of technology development!
